Course Descriptions

Course Descriptions

Currently four types of training are offered: Analytical Training, Advanced Training, Operational Training, and RPM Training.

Analytical Training

Course Overview - This two day course provides the engineer or analyst an understanding of how GIANT can be used to evaluate GPS/navigation system performance and the operational effectiveness of those systems in both a benign and electronic combat environment.

Learning Objectives – This course provides a basic understanding of GPS and how it relates to the GIANT simulation tool. Through the use of hands-on exercises, the student will create scenarios that represent the GPS operational environment. The student will create and configure user equipment, space segment, and GPS Jammers. The student will understand how to create and modify a scenario in GIANT, be able to run the simulation and understand the results and how they relate to system and operational performance. The student will understand the challenge presented by these environments and will be able to use the GIANT model to examine how GPS user equipment will perform in these environments.

Advanced Training – CRPA Antenna Applications

Course Overview - This one day course addresses the use and performance of Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna (CRPA) models in threat environments.

Learning Objectives - This course introduces The Aerospace Corporation’s Adaptive Nulling Effects for Scenarios (ANEFS) model and its use within GIANT. The file formats used to define a CRPA antenna will be described in detail. Legacy and Space Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) configurations will be described and demonstrated. The student will use this information to create new CRPA antennas and evaluate their performance in varying threat environments. Methods to automate the configuration and execution of run matrices will be addressed.

Operational Training

Course Overview - This one day course provides the operator an understanding of how GIANT can be used to predict GPS performance for the warfighter in both a benign and electronic combat environment.

Learning Objectives – This course provides a basic understanding of GPS and how the GIANT simulation tool can be used for operational Mission Planning. Through the use of hands-on exercises, the student will create scenarios representative of an operational environment and look at GPS performance predictions. The student will understand how to use the GIANT Mission Planning Wizard to create a scenario, be able to run the simulation and understand the results and how they impact operational performance.

RPM Training

Course Overview - This half day course provides the operator an understanding of how GIANT Reliability Prediction Model (RPM) is used for the frequency clearance process.

Learning Objectives – The focus of this course is the use of RPM to generate the required reports for test planning coordination. The training will take a user through the process of creating transmitter sites, defining antenna and signal models, and generating RPM reports.


Training Prerequisites

No formal prerequisites are required to attend the GIANT training classes, however a basic understanding of GPS is beneficial. The following list of websites can provide a starting point:
